What is Your Path? Non-specific personal Paganism
About Me I'm a a 42 year-old divorced mother of two girls, 14 and 22 and nana to my 22 year-old's 2 year-old twins. I'm an eclectic pagan, which is likely more the result of having attention deficit disorder than any particular choice. I'm also solitary. I believe in the magic of everyday things: smiles, comfort food, music, dancing, selfless acts, art, hand-written letters, books, sex, studded tires, a glass of good wine, dishwashers, laughing much and effective communication.
Music I'm currently (re-)infatuated with '70s funk, also the blues, jazz, classic rock, Celtic, Middle Eastern dance music, techno, many other genres. Music is beautiful! More specifically: Jurassic 5, el-Bakkar, Miriam Makeba, Cake, Tool, Coldplay, Sublime, Rehab, Benny Benassi, Nine Inch Nails, Led Zeppelin, Gorillaz, Neil Young, B B King, Iggy Pop, Dire Straits, Brian Eno, Danny Flores, Van Morrison, Cheb i Sabbah, CCR, the Chieftains, Etta James, SANTANA, The Talking Heads, Stephane Grappelli, William Shatner singing "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," Yo Yo Ma, Everlast, Andrea Bocelli, Hossam Ramzy, John Coltrane, Stan Getz and every street musician I've ever seen in San Francisco and New Orleans. I can also listen to OPB (Oregon Public Broadcasting) all day and be pretty damned happy about it.
Movies Born Into Brothels; Groundhog Day; Moonstruck; Rob Roy; Harold and Maude; Napoleon Dynamite; One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest; Some Like it Hot; The Princess Bride; Brokeback Mountain; The Life of Brian (and anything else Monty Python); Annie Hall, and almost all Woody Allen; Shawshank Redemption; Pulp Fiction; TransAmerica; True Romance (most Quentin Tarantino, except the most recent one); Seven Brides for Seven Brothers; Unforgiven; all the Dirty Harry movies; Million Dollar Baby; The Long, Long Trailer; Aliens; The Lord of the Rings, all of them, Silence of the Lambs; Shakespear in Love; Finding Nemo; Toy Story; African Queen (and lots of other old movies); Die Hard, etc.; Wallace and Grommit; A Streetcar Named Desire, Blood Diamond, and much, much more. There's so much I've missed that this would be much longer if I could spend any time watching a movie.
TV I haven't watched any in a while because we haven't had cable, but I love anything on the discovery channel, food channel, history channel and then of course House!
Books "Walden" tops the list; "Where Nights are Longest - Travels by car through Western Russia" Colin Thubron; A Kitchen Witch's Cookbook; "Crossing Cultures" Craig Storti; "Outwitting History" Aaron Lansky; "Nickeled and Dimed" Barbara Ehrenreich; "The Devil's Dictionary" Ambrose Bierce; "Stolen Harvest" Vandana Shiva; the entire "At Home in Mitford" series by Jan Karon (heartwarming!). All the Harry Potter books; The Joy of Cooking (natural companion to The Joy of Sex), The Moosewood Cookbook, anything by Anthony Bourdain, hundreds more, not enough space here. Magazines I love are The Sun, Scientific American, The Economist and the no longer published Victoria magazine.
Likes Good conversation, shiny things, glittery things. Rivers, the ocean, cob houses. Plants, food, making food for people, recycling stuff! Finding uses for things that would otherwise be thrown away.

    Dislikes Hate, waste, greed.
Hobbies Spinning and weaving wool and other fibers, like dog hair. I haven't actually had time to do that for a while, but I still think about doing it. My most consistent passion for the last 10 years has been belly dancing. I'm an amature, but it's the one thing I practice a little every day. I love yoga also, riding my bike, and am also hoping to get onto a roller derby team sometime this year. I also write poetry and read a lot.
Vices Disorganization, endlessly trusting (even when it is unfounded or undeserved), procrastinating.
Virtues Caring, trusting, optomistic, able to lead chaotic situations to something workable. Problem solver, recycler.
Heroes My mother, my children, Noam Chomsky, Barbara Ehrenreich, Carl Sagan, Vandana Shiva, Charles Darwin, Robert Putnam, Aaron Lansky, Stephen Hawkings, Rosa Parks, Ambrose Bierce, Jimmy Carter. Also any person who openly displays a belief that is unpopular.

    A question for all . . .

    Thursday, September 27, 2007, 06:19 PM [General]

For anyone who is familar with meetup.com . . . have any of you ever organized an event through them? I've long been on my local list of people who would want a pagan meetup, and see that there are now 31 people on the list! But no one has yet stepped forward to get a group going. I have some facilitation training and thought I would like to be the initial organizer/facilitator for a first meeting.

I thought a get-to-know-each-other potluck would be a good thing, and that we could have a brainstorming session to find what everyone would like from such a group. I can see from everyone's profiles that most are solitary, but want to connect with other like-minded people (don't we all! And that's why we're all here!). Also, I want to tell them about this site. I have never seen anyone from Bend on this site, and here are 31 potential users - how exciting!

Anyway, any feedback is appreciated in advance.

Thanks to all - with love and BB - Lorelyn

    I rock!!

    Tuesday, June 12, 2007, 11:48 PM [giggles]

Yay! I rock! At least that's what it feels like right now!

I've been wanting for months to go try out for the local roller derby team and tonight I did it. It was a blast. I hadn't skated in more years than I want to say, but everyone was so encouraging and it started coming back to me really fast. I started out in the middle and then was feeling better and better and got out and skated with everyone else. Woo hoo!! Those endorphins kicked in right about then and everyone told me what a great job I was doing. Nice.

    Feeling good!

    Yay! :o)

    music players?

    Sunday, May 27, 2007, 06:40 PM [General]

I've seen music players on some people's pages. I know it isn't a regular feature here yet, but can someone with one tell me how you got it on there? Thanks!

    Thanks!

    Saturday, May 26, 2007, 08:15 PM [General]

Thanks everyone for the ideas and thoughts in resonse to my request, you were all a lot of help. I must say that I didn't believe it would work, the protein emphasis for the ADD, but it has made some obvious difference.

I hope everyone's Memorial Day weekend is going as planned, and with the weather to compliment it. Ours is sunny here in Bend Oregon, and the restaurant where I work was attacked by zillions of hungry vacationers from the moment we opened, at 7 a.m. to when I left at 2 p.m. and it still wasn't stopping. I felt like I had run a marathon when I was done.

Oh, I just read the most wonderful book! "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency." I know it's been around for a while, but I only just discovered it. Lovely!

And, I just saw "Blood Diamond." Whew! Sad, strong!

Blessings and love to all, thanks so much again <3

P.S. to my newly found groups - I'll be posting an about me thingy soon. And I'll hope to read as many of yours soon too. I'm so happy to be part of this. I may drop my myspace entirely. :o)

    A request!

    Tuesday, May 22, 2007, 12:51 PM [General]

Greetings to everyone! I'm new at this site and am looking forward to meeting and talking to some of you. What a warm and welcoming place this feels like!

Thanks to those of you who have accepted my friend requests and to those who will in the future.

If you don't mind, I have a request right off the bat, and I appreciate in advance any advice you might have for me.

I was just diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and my couselor told me that for the type that I have, a high protein diet would be very beneficial.

I have always followed a more grain-based diet and leaned towards vegetarianism. I may never be completely vegetarian, but the thought of MORE meat is unthinkable to me.

I did find that a classic soy patty (like Bocca) is high in protein and low in carbohydrates, and I can eat eggs and cheeses.

So my request is this - for any of you to share with me any thoughts for what I can eat that will be less meat, more protein, less carbohydrates (I know a lot of grains can be high protein too, like Quinoa). Any recipes or ideas will be so appreciated. Thanks! Lori
